VMware - vSphere 6 - Config Basic







1. Config with DCUI
  • Connect to the DCUI console of the host.
  • Press “F2″, enter the root credentials and press “Enter” to login.
  • Select “Configure Management Network” and press “Enter”.
  • Select “Network Adapters” to select additional “vmnics” for the Management vSphere Standard Switch.
  • Select “VLAN (optional)” to configure a VLAN for the Management VMkernel. Depend on Network design.
  • Select “IPv4 Configuration” to configure DHCPv4, IPv4 Static or IPv4 Disabled.
  • Select “IPv6 Configuration” to configure DHCPv6, IPv6 Static or IPv6 Disabled.
    • Use "Test Network Management" after config
  • Select “DNS Configuration” to configure DNS.
  • In the “Configure Management Network” screen, press “Escape” to exit and accept your changes. A restart may be required.
  • The vSphere Client can now connect to the ESXi host for additional configuration or be added to an existing vCenter Server 6.0.
2. Config with Vsphere Client

Configure the DNS and Routing Information for an ESXi Host. 
You verify the DNS and routing information for the ESXi host. 
  • 1. In the vSphere Client, select your ESXi host in the inventory pane and click the Configuration tab.
  • 2. In the Software list, select DNS and Routing.
  • 3. Click the Properties link in the upper-right corner. The DNS and Routing Configuration dialog box appears
  • 4. Click the DNS Configuration tab and configure the parameters
  • 5. Click the Routing tab.
  • 6. Verify that the IP address in the Default gateway text box is accurate and click OK
Configure an ESXi Host to Use Directory Services
  • 1. In the vSphere Client, select your ESXi host in the inventory pane and click the Configuration tab.
  • 2. In the Software list, click Authentication Services.
  • 3. Click the Properties link. The Directory Services Configuration dialog box opens.
  • 4. From the Select Directory Service Type drop-down menu, select Active Directory.
  • 5. In the Domain text box, enter the directory services domain name and click Join Domain.
  • 6. Enter the domain administrator user name and password and click Join Domain. The window displays Local Authentication until you click OK.
  • 7. Click OK.
