- •SmartLock is a license feature of OneFS that provides write once, read many (WORM) data protection in software.
- •SmartLock provides protection against unwanted modification or deletion of data.
- •Files protected by SmartLock can be committed automatically or manually by an administrator.
- •Retention periods can be configured at different levels per SmartLock directory and per file. Whichever retention period expires latest is enforced.
- •Two modes of SmartLock exist, enterprise and compliance (SEC 17a-4)
- •SmartLock is used by creating a SmartLock directory on the OneFS filesystem.
- •Default retention periods can be defined on the directory using absolute and relative dates or a combination of the two.
- •Auto commit values can also be defined to lock a file after no changes have been made after some set time.
- •Files in this example placed in the /ifs/SecureData folder will commit after one day without changes and will be committed for the default duration of five years.
- •SmartLock’s enterprise mode is the default mode when building a cluster.
- •In enterprise mode regular users cannot delete, move, or change protected files before the retention period has expired. Only after expiration can the files be moved or deleted.
- •Root has a privileged command to delete protected files before the retention period has passed in enterprise mode.
- •Compliance mode is supported by a SEC 17a-4 certification and uses a dedicated compliance clock.
- •Compliance mode is typically enabled when building a cluster and cannot be enabled by an administrator after installation.
- •In compliance mode the root user is disabled and another administrator account is enabled to replace root functionality.
- •Compliance mode supports both enterprise and compliance SmartLock directories allowing for some flexibility in implementation for customers with compliance requirements.
